Sausalito -- A campaign to recall all five Sausalito school trustees fell short after more than 500 signatures that had been collected were ruled invalid.
The failure to raise enough signatures was a blow to members of Project Homecoming, an eclectic group of houseboaters, wealthy hillside homeowners and public- housing residents who blamed the abysmal performance of the community's public schools on a lack of leadership.
The district's 248 students have the lowest test scores in the county despite the district spending nearly three times the statewide average per student. Project Homecoming now has 21 days to review the information and try to persuade the registrar to accept more signatures.
